Description of Peace Pole Finishes

Natural plant resin oil gives our Peace Poles a beautiful warm-looking and durable finish and is environmentally safe. The product penetrates the wood's surface to strengthen and seal against moisture-staining and weathering. If desired, the finish may be maintained and enhanced with a periodic treatment of oil-resin, otherwise the finish should weather beautifully. There are now two shades available: 'Up North' and 'Original'.
Gloss white Peace Poles have a minimum four coats of hand-applied, high quality, industrial exterior, gloss alkyd, white enamel paint. Weather durability is excellent (3 to 8 years) depending on environmental conditions before re-painting is necessary.

(Peace Pole finishes from left to right:  Gloss Black, Gloss White, Clear, Up North, and Original) (Please note: Clear finish has been discontinued).

Message Plaques and Stands

The message plaques for Peace Poles are made of 3/16" beveled-edge Plexiglas. The black lettering appears on a white background underneath the clear Plexiglas and is protected from weather and scratching.

Peace Poles are approximately eight feet tall and are either four, six, or eight sided. We recommend planting them 12 to 16 inches into the ground. Planting directions will be included with your order. A sturdy, steel Peace Pole stand is available for indoor display.

Four-sided poles have either four or eight message plaques. Hexagon poles may have six or twelve message plaques. Octagon poles have either eight or sixteen message plaques.

A Word About the Use of Our Materials

Peace Pole Makers are concerned about the health and care of our environment. In researching viable materials for Peace Pole making, we found that wood is a renewable resource which is the least harmful to the environment. We use Canadian western red cedar which has a natural resistance to decay and insect attack. It is also unlikely to warp, split, crack, cup or check with age or exposure to the weather. We urge you to care for your peace pole appropriately.
It is our hope and trust that the peace poles we distribute will be respected and cared for, that their purpose in promoting the message, "May Peace Prevail on Earth", will be worthy of their use of a precious resource.

In addition to wood, we also have aluminum poles available. All aluminum poles are sandblasted so that the translations are etched into their surface. Aluminum poles are maintenance free and weather resistant. Please call to find out the availability of hexagon and octagon aluminum poles.

Please feel free to contact us, if you have any further questions.

Peace Pole Production and Timelines

All of our Peace Poles are made by hand in a small wood shop in the woods of northern Michigan. All of the standard translations are silk-screened onto the Plexiglas in shop. Each pole gets personal attention and ships after it meets our standards for quality.

As a result, the manufacture of a Peace Pole usually takes 4-6 weeks. The bigger and more elaborate your pole, the longer it will take to make. We do have rush fees available; If you have a particular date for which you need your pole, please call or email us. We will do our best to work with you and meet the deadline.

Please note that certain times of year, such as September 11, December holidays, and Earth Day are particularly high volume times for us and we may not be able to meet tight deadlines. So please plan ahead to avoid disappointment.

RUSH FEES:

Any standard four sided pole $30.

Any standard six sided pole $50.

Any sandblasted (aluminum or cedar) four sided pole $50.

Rushes are NOT available for octagons or sandblasted hexagons.

NEW! 2007 Limited Edition Peace Sculpture

Introducing a new limited edition Peace Pole sculpture created by Jason Johnston.

The sculpture depicts a man sitting on top of the world, wielding a needle and sewing the world together. The declaration "May Peace Prevail on Earth" is etched into the spiral which supports the world above the rotating black marble base. The land masses are raised to the touch.
Each of the fifty bronze sculptures is signed and numbered by the artist. It is perfect for desktop display. The substantial sculpture stands approximately 13 inches tall with a base about 7 inches wide.
